Climate Change

Do you feel the earth getting warmer? We might not feel the one-degree changes outside but it’s happening everywhere, and not much action is being taken to slow it down. This is an example of global warming, just one out of the many “side effects” of climate change that’s harming our world. Climate change also causes rising sea levels and changes in precipitation and weather patterns. These effects can be seen more easily than others. Sea levels harm the communities living near the shores, forcing them to move inland and changes in the weather patterns create challenges for the agricultural community as it’s not easy to adapt to new weather right away. Our health is at risk too. Greenhouse gasses harm the atmosphere and also create unhealthy air pollutants which we breathe in. This could cause cardiovascular health issues such as asthma to be more common in the future. So, how can we slow global warming and climate change down once and for all?

Here are four ways YOU can help:

1. Find ways to save energy in your home! This can mean turning off lights (and if you do, use LED lights), using less hot water, and limiting air conditioning usage.

2. Instead of driving your car, walk, or ride your bike. Public transport such as buses and trains are good too!

3. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle! It’s easy to separate your trash and recycle correctly, so do it! A simple action like this can make a big difference in contributing to a more sustainable world.

4. Donate, Donate, Donate! Donating to organizations helps fund for more research, find ways to be more sustainable, help in ways individuals wouldn’t be able to, and raise awareness about the causes. You can donate through the organizations’ website or make a donation here. Either way, your support makes a meaningful impact.

This year we are dedicating a portion of our profits to climate change, plus giving a dollar for every mhsMOOSH cookie purchase. The collected money will be distributed evenly among multiple organizations to support their work on climate change. We choose to support many different organizations advocating for the same global issue and not just one organization because we believe different organizations help in different ways and every one of them is valuable. By doing this we can fight multiple aspects of climate change from the biggest challenges to more specific initiatives.

Food Insecurity

As part of our 2025 Doughnation Project, we dedicated a portion of our profits to addressing food insecurity nationwide. By supporting multiple organizations working toward the same goal, we aimed to fight food insecurity in different ways and recognized that many efforts play different but equally important roles. Through this approach, we were able to support both big challenges and more specific efforts working to create change.

We support the Arlington County Medical Society (ACMS) and its mission of promoting community health, advancing medical education, and supporting physicians who serve the Northern Virginia community. We have donated more than 270 desserts and contributed to ACMS’s holiday fundraising auction, helping raise funds and give back to the medical professionals.

We have supported Care4Cancer by donating baked goods to fundraising events that benefit cancer research and patient support programs. Through this work, we helped raise funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and for children receiving treatment at Children’s National Hospital, supporting their mission to advance cancer research and patient care. Baking has allowed us to raise awareness and make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer.
